GPRLS - Skills for Life

GPRLS Skills for Life is for Skills for Life teachers (ESOL, Literacy, Numeracy) seeking recognition of their subject specialism and/or generic recognition in the full teaching role.
Those who are successful in achieving recognition through Lifelong Learning UK on behalf of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), are able to commence the process of professional formation and subsequently go on to apply for the status of Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).
Further benefits of gaining GPRLS
As well as being eligible to apply for licensed status, additional benefits have been cited by successful Skills for Life applicants. These include using the process as an opportunity to reflect on their own experience and develop a clear picture of competence; increased job security; IfL membership category increased to "Member".
Who can apply?
The scheme is open to:
- existing members of the workforce as a means of gaining professional standing
- experienced teachers who are new entrants to the learning and skills sector as one route to gaining licensed status
- those part qualified for their role when the 2007 regulations were implemented.
Please note: applications cannot be accepted from individuals who are enrolled, or have recently enrolled, on a generic or subject specialist teaching qualification unless supported by the tutor.
To request a Skills for Life pack, please email the recognition team at recognition@svuk.eu stating your name, postal address, SfL subject specialism and place of work.
