As a consequence of changes in the learning and skills landscape, Standards Verification UK (SVUK) ceased operations on Thursday, 31 March 2011.

These are the arrangements regarding SVUK’s services.

The Tariff of Qualifications (ITT)

A transfer of this function has been agreed with the Institute for Learning (IfL). Therefore, one post will transfer under TUPE regulations. IfL will take responsibility for the Tariff of Qualifications (ITT), the EU and overseas qualifications Comparison Tool, and information about evidencing personal skills. At present, these tools are still available from the links on this site . Further information will be posted when the relevant information from the site is integrated into the IfL site.

General Professional Recognition Learning and Skills (GPRLS)

This scheme is now closed. The Institute for Learning is developing a replacement scheme, details of which will be posted when they have been finalised.

Endorsement

Endorsement as a term and process ceases with SVUK. IfL has outlined an ITTE Quality Assurance Process which includes requiring awarding organisations to self-declare that their qualifications fully examine and test he most current version of the Professional Standards that apply to teachers, traners and tutors in the Lifelong Learning Sector in England and adhere to relevant guidance. Qualifications that meet the terms of the Quality Assurance Process will be placed on a register to be maintained by IfL. This is being developed and should be ready for September 2011 at which point further details will be posted.

Endorsement in Wales is suspended until DCELLS, the relevant department of the Welsh Assembly Government, determines future arrangements.

Quality Mark

The SVUK Quality mark service is now closed.

Lifelong Learning UK

SVUK’s parent body Lifelong Learning UK also ceased operations on 31 March. For more information about the future of sector skills work in the lifelong learning sector please visit www.lsis.org.uk.

Standards Verification UK has become aware that many teachers and trainers working in the wider learning and skills sector such as police trainers, health care educators and military trainers are registering with the Institute for Learning (IfL) as a means of being affiliated to a nationally recognised professional body.

Registration with the IfL enables these professionals to have their teaching/training skills and qualifications widely recognised, have the support of a national body for this area of their work and gain the IfL conferred benchmark status of Qualified/Associate Teacher Learning and Skills (Q/ATLS).

IfL uses the SVUK Tariff of Qualifications (ITT) to recognise and grade applicants as full or associate members. The Tariff is an online tool which acknowledges existing teacher/trainer qualifications by mapping them to the FE benchmark qualifications, ensuring that all teaching professionals are properly recognised and awarded the correct grading by IfL. It is also used by teacher educators as a means of assessing prior achievements (APA/APEL) for further professional development.

Standards Verification UK is also aware that there are many highly competent teachers/trainers with years of experience but no formal qualifications. Our General Professional Recognition scheme, designed specially to recognise these professionals for whom undertaking a formal qualification would be wholly inappropriate, via an application based process, is fully accepted by IfL for appropriate grading.

Contact Jade Corrie on 0113 241 0433 or by email: jadecorrie@svuk.eu, to take up this opportunity to support your workforce by having your teacher/trainer workforce skills and qualifications acknowledged as they should be, or alternatively if you are an individual wanting to discuss Professional Recognition in more detail.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has announced its decision not to relicense Lifelong Learning UK in its own right.

We are of course disappointed by this outcome. However, there can be no doubt that lifelong learning is a priority sector for promoting social inclusion, active citizenship and employability, all of which are vital to economic growth, and we remain committed to our vision of the UK’s lifelong learning workforce being the best in the world.

The Chair and CEO of Lifelong Learning UK are in talks to identify the best alternative arrangements for our work, and that of our subsidiary Standards Verification UK, details will be announced in due course. In the meantime Lifelong Learning UK and Standards Verification UK will continue to deliver on its plans and commitments.

Our work has been, and will continue to be, driven by the belief that a world class lifelong learning workforce is essential to ensuring fairness, encouraging flexibility and delivering value for learners, employers and society as a whole.
