There have been numerous international ESOL qualifications available for young people and adults since the late 1960s. In the past these may have been known as English as a Foreign Language (EFL) qualifications.
Where would I have studied?
International ESOL qualifications are offered in a variety of settings including colleges, universities and private language schools in the UK and abroad.
How would I have been assessed?
International ESOL qualifications are offered at different levels and can assess speaking and listening only, reading and writing only or all four skills. Courses vary in length and assessment is usually by external examination at the end of the course.
What result would I have achieved?
International ESOL qualifications which assess all four skills; speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Achievements can be at different levels but only those which are at level C1 or C2 on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages provide evidence of personal skills in literacy at level 2.
Awarding bodies include: TCL, Cambridge ESOL, OCNW, ESB, EDI, EDEXCEL and City & Guilds.
