Restrictions and Clarifications regarding the Tariff
Restrictions and clarifications regarding the Tariff of Initial Teacher Training Qualifications, managed by Standards Verification UK (SVUK) are listed below.
Information is available about classes of qualifications.
Changes over time
The new ITTE qualifications introduced in September 2007 contain elements which have been introduced over time and may not be covered in the legacy qualification, e.g. introduction of the minimum core, emphasis on subject specialism and personalised learning. In these instances, awarding institutions or other relevant bodies may require additionality, in order to meet the full requirements of the qualification.
Mapping only to same level qualifications
Legacy qualifications will only be mapped to an equivalent level in the new qualifications framework. For example, the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 4 FE Teachers Qualification will only be mapped to the same level qualifications in the new framework (PTLLS, CTLLS and DTLLS). However, individuals may have evidence that can support their claims to higher levels of the new qualifications.
Clarification of level 4
Legacy qualifications at Level 4 are based on the old NQF levels. Level 4 in the new NQF/QCF has been broken down into three levels: Level 4, 5, and 6. The new framework of qualifications is based on the new NQF.
Coverage of PTLLS
While the Tariff demonstrates that some legacy qualifications sufficiently cover PTLLS, a learner cannot be awarded the PTLLS qualification and a trainee teacher/trainer can only use the coverage in the course of gaining a CTLLS or DTLLS. For example if a learner enrols on CTLLS, they will only need to achieve 'Planning and enabling learning', 'Principles and practice of assessment' and 6 credits of optional units.
