How does the Tariff work?
The Tariff of Initial Teacher Training Qualifications, managed by Standards Verification UK (SVUK), consists of two parts.
Part One establishes whether legacy qualifications have sufficient coverage in relation to the new qualifications. The Tariff tables indicate which units of new qualifications have sufficient coverage and which have insufficient coverage.
The Tariff does not deal with requirements for teaching practice or whether assessed teaching observations have been met. Awarding institutions (AIs) or other relevant bodies will issue guidance on how these requirements can be met.
As the tariff only relates to the mandatory units, please note that:
- CTLLS also requires completion of a 6-credit Optional Unit
- DTLLS Part One requires completion of a 15-credit Optional Unit.
Part Two identifies potential areas for development:
- where there is insufficient coverage, specific areas are identified. These indicate where AIs may support learners in providing evidence, either through top-up modules or accreditation of prior learning and achievement (APLA) to ensure sufficient coverage
- where there is sufficient coverage, areas which could be addressed through continuing professional development are identified. These areas could cover elements, which have been introduced over time but which may not be covered in the legacy qualification, e.g. introduction of the minimum core, emphasis on subject specialism and personalised learning.
The Tariff relates to classes of legacy qualifications, which are mapped to the units of assessment in the 'New overarching professional standards for teachers, tutors and trainers'. It does not map individually named qualifications from specific awarding institutions, unless specifically identified as such.
