Sue Brown

Sue has many years experience in the public sector executive and has been involved in several pioneering projects for central government stakeholders, including the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), Local Government Association (LGA) and the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA), the British Library and a range of public library authorities.

Sue undertook various roles at CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals and had particular responsibility for Vocational Education and Workforce Development for the Library and Information Sector. She implemented a new Framework of Qualifications opening up new routes to Chartership and introduced a new Certification scheme for Affiliates. She was instrumental in establishing ISNTO and contributed to the formation of LLUK. For her own self development Sue gained a Masters in Public Administration (MPA), looking in particular at workplace diversity, whilst at CILIP.

At an international level Sue has chaired a pan-European working group on equivalencies and certification for professional qualifications and participated in meetings with UNESCO, the British Council, the European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations (EBLIDA) and the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA). In a personal capacity Sue has represented the UK on international committees responsible for bibliographic standards and currently chairs The Committee of Principals responsible for Resource Description and Access (RDA).
