Tariff of Initial Teacher Training Qualifications

Tariff of Initial Teacher Training Qualifications

Standards Verification UK (SVUK) manages the Tariff of  Initial Teacher Training Qualifications, which equates post 16 initial teacher training (ITT) qualifications available in England prior to September 2007 with the new teaching and training qualifications, which have since been introduced and are listed below:

  • Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
  • Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)
  • Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS)

The Tariff relates to classes of legacy qualifications, which are mapped to the units of assessment in the 'New overarching professional standards for teachers, tutors and trainers'. It does not map individually named qualifications from specific awarding institutions, unless specifically identified as such. Consequently any legacy qualification may go beyond the Tariff but it is the responsibility of the awarding institution (higher education institutions and national awarding bodies to justify and declare where their students should enter the programme in terms of advanced standing, or any Accreditation of Prior Achievement (APA).

The Tariff is a tool, which acknowledges legacy qualifications and ensures that people who wish to work towards Associate or Qualified Teacher Learning Skills (ATLS/QTLS) status start their journey at the appropriate stage of the new qualifications.
